A visual collection of obsolete and rare data storage media formats.
My journey with the CBHD format (a high-definition disc format developed in China, now a true technological rarity) began over six years ago. For years, I searched high and low for a disc to add to my collection, but without success, until one day, while browsing Chinese websites, I stumbled upon a listing in a local bookstore. It felt like pure luck, especially since the price was incredibly low. However, my excitement was quickly met with a challenge. I hit a wall during checkout: no PayPal, no international credit cards, only Chinese banks or the Weixin Pay app, which repeatedly rejected my identity verification. As days passed, the seller grew impatient and threatened to cancel the order.
In a last-ditch effort, I thought of our company’s Chinese supplier. With help from a colleague, I was introduced via email to William, who is responsible for sales in Poland. Without hesitation, William offered to help. I sent him the link and moments later, the item vanished from the store, William had secured it. He asked me to wait. A month later, he called and explained the logistics: he bought the discs, had them shipped to his mother in China, and she passed the package to a colleague flying to Poland. When William said he would drop by, I told him it might be difficult because he was in Warsaw and I was in Krakow. He simply replied: "No problem, I will be at your place in two days." He kept his word. We finally met in person, exchanged gifts, and had a wonderful conversation. Thanks to William’s kindness and goodwill, I finally added those elusive CBHD discs to my collection, together with a rare EVD disc.
